If you are looking for a young adult story, with fantasy, adventure, and a bit of soul searching, then you might enjoy Savvy, by Ingrid Law. Mibs is about to turn 13, and in her family, that means she will get her savvy. She is really looking forward to her special day, and to what her savvy will be. (Savvy is a special, super-natural gift members of her family get.) But on the eve of her birthday, her father gets in a car accident, and all her plans are dashed, as her main concern becomes the welfare of her father. She stows away on a big pink bus, with brothers and friends, to try to get to the hospital, but her plans go awry when the bus ends up going the wrong way.
